About Ba Sa

Ba Sa is the sister restaurant to Pho T&N located in Poulsbo, Washington. Pho T&N opened in 2005 and fulfilled a lifelong dream for Rang Nguyen and Huyen Tran who arrived in Washington in 1998 after a long and complicated journey from Vietnam. From selling fresh made banh mi and butchering pigs in refugee camps to cooking in various kitchens throughout the Seattle area, food has always been a form of expression and connection for the couple. In the spring of 2018, the Nguyen children began running Pho T&N and continue to honor their parents by providing guests with great food and welcoming hospitality.

Ba Sa is a restaurant envisioned by the second generation of the Nguyen family. Siblings Trinh and Thai have created a menu that showcases traditional Vietnamese dishes inspired by French techniques and the abundance of products found in the Pacific Northwest.

Ba Sa is named after a type of catfish featured as the main ingredient in ca kho to— a favorite meal their mother made for the family growing up in Vietnam.

Trinh grew up cooking with her parents and credits that creative time in the kitchen with her love of food. Trinh holds a degree in finance, and while she expertly runs the business side of the restaurant, it’s the creative collaboration in the kitchen with Thai that truly feeds her soul.

Thai, one of the younger siblings, was born in a refugee camp for Vietnamese at Sikhiu in Northeastern Thailand. Thai spent his formative years helping out in the family restaurant, but his interest in cooking wasn’t ignited until a cross-country road trip opened his eyes to the wonders and possibilities of food. With a new passion for cooking, Thai enrolled in the Institute of Culinary Education in New York where he immersed himself in learning French techniques and found himself deeply inspired by the cuisines of Japan and Southeast Asia. Thai brings much creative energy and passion as the chef of Ba Sa.

Ba Sa is dedicated to our parents who sacrificed everything to ensure that we would have a bright and successful future.
